Barry County, Michigan Begins e-Recording
press release

Barry County, Mich., is now electronically recording documents through Simplifile, providing the register of deeds’ office and its customers with a faster, more cost-effective recording solution.

Instead of submitting documents to the register’s office for recording by mail, runner, or courier service, the availability of e-recording means recording customers such as title companies, banks, attorneys, and lien filers can now submit documents online. In minutes, the documents are received, reviewed, stamped, recorded and returned from the county back to the submitter.

"My goal for this year is to establish more clients who will be using e-recordings, especially local customers such as attorneys and title companies, to provide faster service for all of Barry County in document recording," said Barry County Register of Deeds Barbara Hurless. "As we grow our e-recording client base, we should be able to record faster with less physical handling of the documents themselves. We should also save money on postage, as all documents are sent back electronically and returned the very same day they get recorded, providing much faster service to the customers."

According to Hurless, all documents types are currently being accepted for e-recording in Barry County, with the exception of documents requiring certification for back taxes such as warranty deeds, easements, land contracts, and land contracts assignments.

"We do plan to accept these types of documents in the future," Hurless said.

In addition to a faster recording turnaround time and savings on postage, e-recording also helps to eliminate paper waste and check-writing, as recording fees and payments are processed securely through Simplifile using Automated Clearing House, or electronic funds transfer.

"Simplifile has been great to work with and helped provide us with a very smooth transition into e-recording," Hurless added.

With the addition of e-recording in Barry County, Simplifile’s e-recording service is now available in 21 Michigan counties and more than 1,100 total counties nationwide.
