The Surry County register of deeds’ office is now accepting electronic documents for recording through Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service provider.
"I am pleased to be extending our land records e-recording process here in Surry County with Simplifile," said Surry County Register of Deeds Carolyn M. Comer. "In an effort to increase the e-recording volume, we are adding another e-recording vendor at no charge to the county on the receiving end. This also allows another form of recording your documents, and it is safe and secure. E-recording is a benefit to all involved in the land records industry."
Using Simplifile’s web-based service, customers will be able to electronically prepare or scan, upload, and submit documents to the register’s office for recording in minutes.
"The benefits are huge for all involved," Comer said. "Being on the receiver end, it allows us to save paper and reduces workflow time. For the submitter, it saves them lots of travel time and turnaround time in closings their customers’ loans. If you are a bank, mortgage company, title company, or a practicing attorney and not currently taking advantage of e-recording, I highly recommend you check into how you can get started."
Surry County joins 45 other e-recording counties in North Carolina in addition to more than 1,200 recording jurisdictions nationwide that e-record with Simplifile.
"My biggest goal this year with e-recording will be to educate the submitter and offer any assistance and help with getting them signed up and ready to join others in the e-recording world. I feel it will be a smooth transition," Comer added.
High-speed Internet access, a PC, and a scanner are the minimum requirements for customers to begin e-recording with Simplifile.
Recording fees and payments can also be processed securely through Simplifile, eliminating check-writing expenses and reducing payment errors.
"We’re thrilled to be able to provide this service to Surry County and their customers and to help make their day to day recording work just a little bit easier," said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile.
