Boone County is now accepting electronic documents for recording through Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service, providing customers with a faster, more efficient online recording method.

E-recording is the method of submitting, receiving, and processing documents such as land records for recording online, which are otherwise submitted by mail, runner, or courier service.

"Boone County decided to start e-recording because we know this is the way of the future," said Boone County Clerk and Recorder Mary S. Steurer. "Other counties that had already implemented e-recording said they had good results. Therefore, we decided the time was right for us to move forward."

Using Simplifile’s secure, web-based service, customers such as title companies, banks, and legal offices can electronically prepare or scan and upload documents and send them securely through Simplifile directly to Steurer’s office for recording in minutes.

According to Steurer, e-recording is faster, requires less paper handling, and has been well-received by her staff.

"Simplifile has been great to work with. They have lived up to their promises," Steurer added.

Recording fees and payments can also be processed securely through Simplifile, eliminating check-writing expenses and reducing payment errors.

"We accept most documents except deeds and monument records. If in doubt please call to check whether or not your document qualifies for e-recording," Steurer said.

Boone County is the 20th Illinois county to adopt Simplifile’s e-recording service, joining more than 1,200 recording jurisdictions nationwide that e-record with Simplifile.

High-speed Internet access, a PC, and a scanner are the minimum requirements for customers to begin e-recording with Simplifile.
