Pennington County, Minnesota Begins eRecording
pres release

Pennington County has started electronically recording land documents through Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service, providing a faster, more cost-effective recording option for customers online.

"We decided to get into e-recording because of the time it saves and that it enhances service to our customers. What used to take a couple of days can now be done in a fraction of the time it used to take," said Pennington County Recorder Ken Schmalz. "I urge all of our customers to use e-recording for the ease of use and the fast document turnaround time."

Using Simplifile’s secure, web-based service, customers including title companies, banks, and attorneys will be able to electronically submit documents to the county and have them recorded in minutes.

According to Schmalz, they found e-recording to be "easier and quicker than paper recording," and they learned how to do it right away.

Through Simplifile, customers will also have the ability to track and view the status of their documents that have been submitted to the county, making it easier and more cost-effective to correct and resubmit rejected documents as needed.

"We now only accept non-transfer documents, but I want to work with the auditor’s office to accept documents that have transfers, State Deed Tax and Mortgage Registration Tax," Schmalz added. "The reports for the money transfers are detailed so that we can immediately know what items the transfer is for."

Recording fees and payments can also be processed securely through Simplifile, eliminating check-writing expenses and reducing payment errors.

"E-recording brings countless benefits to customers and their county, big or small," said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile.

Pennington County joins 70 other Simplifile e-recording counties in Minnesota and more than 1,240 counties that also e-record with Simplifile nationwide.

High-speed Internet access, a PC, and a scanner are the minimum requirements for customers to begin e-recording with Simplifile.
