Judge Awards Borrower $3.17M Over Misapplied Mortgage Payments

A significant amount of punitive damages was awarded last week to a homeowner who was overcharged by his mortgage lender via undisclosed junk fees and other charges while he was in bankruptcy-- all in violation of the automatic stay of foreclosure provided by bankruptcy, but standard operating procedure for banks, according to the judge in the case.
