[-] Your opinions please--paying signing agents up front - Ronda Roaring/NY (1 reply)
10/7/2008 5:24:02 PM (3468 views)

Perhaps I've just been hit particularly hard, but I've had a number of title companies and signing services go belly up, leaving me unpaid. In addition, I had a long talk with Bill Price, the attorney for creditors in the EFS bankruptcy, and he said there isn't enough money to pay the creditors more than 25%. So I'm out on that end, too. I need to get paid in order to stay in business myself. I simply can't continue to conduct signings for free. There was some discussion about notaries being put on the HUD, but that has its down sides. I had a long talk with the accounts manager for the local appraisal company, who explained to me how they get paid, most often, except for local banks, up front by the borrower, paying either by check or credit card.  I've talked with a credit card processing company, and it wouldn't be hard for me to set up a similar system. What would be your reaction if you called me to conduct a closing, and I told you I wanted to be paid the same way as the appraiser--up front by the borrower?
