So, I just got a call from an individual with an EXTREME Indian accent. It took me several tries to figure out what he was saying. He was asking if I had received a document request. I did indeed find an e-mail (and finally figured out that he was saying "Brainy Treats"). It has a Sterling, VA address and phone number. Hm.
I explained that I had never heard of them before and cannot work for someone outside of the country because I have no effective way of collecting on bad debt. End of that conversation.
Intrigued, I found their website (and here's where it gets fun): The home page (obviously a boiler plate) says "You can put your trust in Brainy Treats Inc. We provide personal service and exceptional quality. All of our services and products are guaranteed. We have been in business for nearly 12 years. Our unparalleled service, competitive prices, and overall value are why our loyal customers won't go anywhere else. We look forward to serving you."
Well, THAT certainly pins down what they do, doesn't it?
So let's go to "About Us" on the webpage. Low and behold there is a picture of a caucasian middle-aged man and an attractive caucasian/hispanic woman. I won't type out everything there, but just a couple of the sentences that, er, caught my attention: "For over eighteen years, Owners Dawn and Ken Smith have built a solid reputation as Anytown's most trusted business." .... "Dawn and Ken grew up in northern Anystate, helping their father with his business. Ken began apprenticing his father at the age of 12 and has developed a deep knowledge and understanding of running a successful enterprise. Dawn and Ken inherited their father's unique insight and knowledge. Dawn and Ken carry on the tradition started in the Smith family many years ago."
I sort of swing between total outrage and hysterical laughter. If you don't believe me (and I wouldn't blame you!), check out brainytreats.com yourself from your Anytown on your Anybrand computer utilizing your Anyinternetprovider.
