One of my favorite abstractors lost her husband just 3 months ago (he was in his early 50's, as is she), and then a month ago lost her step-mother. There's even more bad in her life right now regarding her grown children that I won't even get into! Needless to say, this dear, hard-working, honest, loyal woman has been going through tough times. She has ALWAYS been there for me (and for everyone, I'm sure) for emergencies and for help in general. She even took over running the office for me several years ago so that my husband and I could have a much needed vacation.
She also runs names at the courthouse for another company that does background checks and has done that for them for OVER 10 YEARS without problems and without an issue (or a miss, I might add). When she left 3 weeks ago to spend time with her father and to help him work through HIS grief, she explained that she had no back-up person to recommend. (It's slim-pickin's in her county, at least for that kind of grunt work.) She finally ran into a woman and told her client about her.
As soon as she returned from ONE WEEK OFF, she told the client she was back and to start sending work again. Well, I'm sure you know what had happened based on my subject line.
What is wrong with people? *I* don't run my company that way and it certainly hasn't hurt me. My abstractors are just THE BEST and I protect them, support them, and help them any way I can, and they do the same for me. Is it really so hard to make a buck without being a complete jackass?
Sorry...just needed to vent.
