The court didn't invalidate the note, just the mortgage. But in a bankruptcy, once the note is unsecured by virtue of the mortgage being wiped out, the court can discharge the debt, so the result can end up the same.
As I see it, a registered land system would be pretty nearly useless if they don't keep it up to date, or if the folks who need title information feel like they need a title search anyway, because the system is not reliable enough or whatever. What use is a certificate of title if the people who need to know the state of title can't/don't rely on it?
