I have seen some confusion on "Federal Judgments."  There are different kinds of FJ - those filed because of a violation of the US Constitution (ex: Civil Rights); those filed against a Federal Corporation (such as a Bank that is a NA); large money damage lawsuits; etc.  In these cases, the length of the judgment entered by the court is set by state law.  In MN, under MSA 541.04, these FJ are good only for 10 years.

A recent example is when the MN Vikings won a lawsuit against Wells Fargo, NA for rooftop signs that competed with U.S. Bank Stadium signs (US Bank paid millions for naming rights to the stadium.) The Federal Judge awarded over $600,000 in attorney fees to the Vikings for the suit.

These are different from an FJ in favor of the United States including Federal Corporations,  Commissions,  Boards, Instrumentalities (ex: FNMA); or other entities of the US Government, where the US Judgment is good for 20 years by Federal Law.

A FJ is also different from a Federal Tax Lien good for 10 years plus 30 days for refiling.
