Wow! In the middle of a lake. I agree. I have been in this business long enough to know that Wiley Coyote or James Bond probably isn't their real name. I looked up one business and their office in Florida had been closed for about two years. Sometimes the reasons an entity has changed their name are valid. However, if they show up under the SOS website as having adopted 5 or 6 various names over the course of a 5-year period, there is a reason for that - or forming a sister company. There are plenty of legitimate title companies out there to work for. My best bet is always to ask someone in another part of the state who covers a region I do not cover. I have been blessed to receive names from other abstractors which result in great leads and good working relationships.
To add to Will's cautionary tale, I always always check the Secretary of State website to make sure they are active and have not been revoked as well. Just my paltry two cents . .
