Just a quick note for those that do searches in Genesee County, MI. ROD is making changes to another software company (Tyler Eagle system) , and discarding the DTS system. The public search will no longer be available on line once they complete this, come September, unless you pay to search, and it is not going to be cheap. . According to the clerks, you will pay $500 to access a month, or $5.00 for every 30 minutes and copies will still be $1.00 a page. There was a meeting to show the overview, and I expressed concern quite strongly about the time it will take to do an accurate search in a new system not accustom to the many "unique" indexing issues in Genesee County. The DTS system has worked out all the kinks and has all the bells and whistles needed to work through the "unique" problems in Genesee County and you can complete an accurate title search if you search the many ways available. The problem with no public access unless you go to the county( or pay $500 a month plus copy charges) seems a bit of a jump back to the old days of scrambling for computers and long days hanging out at the county. If you have concerns about this, you should contact Register of Deeds and express it. This is going to be the hardest on Independents and small companies, another hard hit to the working blue collar people of Michigan. I had a feeling this was coming from some things I had heard a while back, and have been seeking out ways to cut costs and continue to give my customers the same great product we have done for over 18 years without costing them more. I have made many calls and am trying some new things to ensure the future for my company.
