As long as title insurance companies pave the way with outsourcing, I do not and cannot expect or see that to ever plausibly happen. It does not start with the little people; it began with the big people. Anyone I know who has worked for First American, Red Vision, etc can back me up.
Look at who their Managers and Operators and front men are. I don't believe a strike or anything will have any effect on changing the world or the fact that companies now want title at half the price they used to pay for it.
Here's a thought - if the clerk's could charge some kind of subscription fee where not everyone would have access to this, wouldn't it make our world a little safer? Pretty much everyone in any country can go online and do a search in Madison or Mitchell and/or Buncombe County - hell in Buncombe county you can go back to 1817 if you want. If it weren't for estates and life estates and the need to get death certs, business would be even slower. So it's a combo of both, the availability of data, and the great law of supply and demand and competitive pricing - and people who will do a title for $8.
