Starting up again in Alabama & other states - Diane Brookerd/AL

Hi everyone,

I had a successful abstracting/closing business in Mobile, AL from around 2000-2013. I had to shut down due to the economy and lack of work so I've been in the corporate world since then. I am considering reopening in AL and covering as many counties that I can online. I'm also a Licensed Title Agent for the State of AL.

I would like to know who you have your E&O thru (not the underwriter but the broker) and if you have any info about the way online searches are done nowdays. I know there are many subscriptioon services now (there were not when I was doing it) and I'm not sure who is legit and who is not. Also any tips on companies to stay away from (that dont pay).

Also, what are you guys charging these days? I know there are many "foreign" companies that offer inferior services but are you able to survive anyway?

I'm also open to abstracting in other states (that are online). Since I've been in the corporate title insurance world, I have acquired knowledge in other states like GA, NC, SC, CT, MA, UT, NV, DE, WV so if you know of any companies that would need searches in these areas, I'd much appreciate the info. Not trying to take any business from any fellow abstractors at all....just trying to kick back up again.

Thank you for reading and have a blessed day.
