In reality, who would order a county search without the copies? No one.
Searchers do a basic run sheet. It is not a comprehensive report of title. There are many times that exceptions and requirements are not picked up on the run sheet prepared by the Searcher. That's ok, because as long as I have copies, I can read the full chain in its entirety.
I can't imagine hiring a searcher who would not provide copies and tell their client to get them themselves. What would be the point of the independent searcher?
I'm originally from Illinois. There every title agency has its own in house searchers who sat at the court houses with their own stations of fax and phone lines. They were salaried employees.
With so many counties being on line now, off shore search companies, etc. I'd think it prudent for a searcher to find a viable set price for copies.
Forget the cheeseburger, order it plain - it still comes WITH the fries.
