Looking back at this, it does not. I try to wear either stretchy dress pants for bending down ungraciously to pick up old deed books off the bottom shelf - I know something, either a button, or a shirt sleeve, or skin, is going to pop out, and higher shirts so I do not bend over and show cleavage. It helps to wear clothing with some room or I find I am hot, sweaty, and irritated at the end of the day. I think the primary thing is it makes a difference in the way people respond to and treat me - also who approaches me and asks for my business card. Sometimes I get the inevitable - "Are you an attorney?" which of course I respond immediately, No, I am not, but I'm proud that I look attorney-like enough to pass off for one. to me, it goes to credibility. Do I look like I know what I'm doing? I'm likely to pick up more customers along the way (and be treated with more respect).
