Wanted to thank everyone for the replies and provide an update as to some of the info I found during my inquiry.  I received lots of different replies from clients and title companies.  The overall message is that title searchers could be considered an extension of the law office so we would want to comply with as many of the new reg's as apply to us.  Much of what we work with is public record but there are items that we may come across that are considered not public info (for example sales contracts and title policies).  So with that in mind I will try to get myself as ready as possible in anticipation that some/all of the new reg's might get passed along to us.  The following is a list of items that I'll likely be implementing.

1. Encrypted email appears as if it will be the new norm when it comes to submitting searches, etc. starting in October.  I'll be getting encrypted email as soon as I figure out the route I wish to take.

2. Encrypting your computers hard drive is a good idea, This can be done using Windows built in  bitlocker drive encryption.

 3. Ensuring physical files are as safe/secure as possible (in a locked office, in a locked file cabinet)

4. Having a written policy of office procedures (for me this will be fairly simple as I'm one person)

5. I already carry E&O insurance and since I don't use/manage a trust account  I didn't look into additional cyber insurance coverage

 6. I might even get a copy of a certified background check and keep it on hand in case any clients decide to ask for it.  One local searcher just said that within the last few weeks one of the attorneys she works for  had requested her permission to conduct a background check (and possibly a credit check) on her.

Not a lot to do, but certainly not the easiest things to do either.  I hope some of you will find this info at least somewhat helpful.  I did find that most of my clients were happy to hear from me when asking questions about this topic so although it may be a little intimidating it will likely be better to ask now that to possibly loose business later because of not being prepared.  Thanks again and good luck.
