A note for anyone taking on a new client blind. I have usually been partial to trying out new clients (if the search was not particularyly extensive). I found some of my best clients that way. Some are flashes in the pans.
On all of my reports I include boilerplate language that includes this phrase: UPON PAYMENT, THERE CAN BE LIABILITY FOR ANY NEGLIGENCE, MISTAKES OR OMISSIONS AS AN ABSTRACTOR AND ONLY FOR THE PERIOD SEARCHED.
If I have been stiffed (which sometimes happened--but only once per client) I sent a follow up email that notified them that the report that I sent is not valid for insurance purposes. It usually doesn't work, but they have been notified. God help the bank or insurance company that thought they were getting a bargain.
I am enjoying my recent retirement.
