MISMO®, the real estate finance industry's standards organization, today announced the publication of the SMART Doc V3 Power of Attorney Specification.
“The new SMART Doc V3 Power of Attorney Specification extends the benefits of verifiable, tamper-evident data to a critical loan document,” said Brian Vieaux, MISMO President. “By enabling document data to travel with the PDF and be automatically validated, this specification helps increase trust, reduce risk, and support more efficient, interoperable digital mortgage processes across the industry.”
The SMART Doc® V3 Verifiable Profile allows document data to travel with the PDF and then be automatically verified with the document image, providing assurance that loan documents and associated data are consistent, reliable, and unaltered. The new specification applies SMART Doc V3 Verifiable Profile functionality to the power of attorney document, further enabling the seamless exchange of data and documents between trading partners.
Each section includes a sample layout showing how data may appear and a list of typical variables with IDs that map back to the POA Mapping Specification, which also outlines suggested conditionality and minimum required fields. Together, the POA Mapping Specification and POA Mock Doc Guide help implementers create consistent SMART Doc® V3 POA documents while allowing final conditionality to be set with trading partners.
