MISMO Advances Title and Closing Modernization with Publication of Two New ALTA Dataset Standards
press release, Mortgage Bankers Association

MISMO®, the real estate finance industry's standards organization, today announced the publication of two new standards in Candidate Recommendation status: the ALTA Title Policy Dataset and the ALTA Settlement Statement Dataset.

Developed in partnership with the American Land Title Association (ALTA), these datasets align ALTA’s widely used forms with MISMO’s trusted data standards. The collaboration delivers a unified digital foundation that enhances efficiency for lenders, title companies, settlement agents, servicers, and technology providers. The work also supports MISMO’s broader commitment to powering a more digital, data-driven mortgage experience.

The new datasets provide a consistent digital framework that allows title and settlement information to move as data rather than documents, improving accuracy and reducing manual workloads. Together, they help organizations reduce manual effort and rekeying to minimize errors and delays, enhance interoperability across platforms and stakeholders, and improve data quality and transparency for smoother closings and servicing transfers.

“These new datasets represent the strength of the partnership between ALTA and MISMO and our shared commitment to modernizing the exchange of title and settlement information,” said Steve Gold, Associate Counsel & Senior Director of Products, ALTA, and Co-Chair, MISMO Title and Closing Community of Practice. “By aligning ALTA’s trusted forms with MISMO’s data standards, we are giving lenders, title companies, and technology providers a common digital framework that enables the industry to reduce friction, improve data quality, and support a more modern, efficient closing experience.”

These work products were created by MISMO’s Title & Closing Docs to Data Development Workgroup, under the leadership of Rocket Close’s Bryan Bedard as Chair. Their guidance, along with contributions from dedicated industry participants, ensured the datasets address real operational needs and support consistent implementation across the mortgage ecosystem.

Candidate Recommendation status reflects industry consensus and signals readiness for implementation. Industry participants are encouraged to begin adopting the standard and provide feedback as part of MISMO’s ongoing standards governance process.
