Nebraska has expanded electronic recording (e-recording) in Phelps County, Neb., enabling customers to submit documents for recording online through Simplifile, the nation’s largest e-recording service provider.
With the ability to e-record, customers including title companies, banks, and attorneys can scan, upload, and submit documents using Simplifile secure, web-based service to the clerk’s office for recording in minutes.
"E-recording documents helps our customers record documents quickly and saves cost by not mailing documents back to them. They are returned electronically," said Phelps County Clerk Sally Fox. "I’m excited about Simplifile because of the time it saves us by already having the documents stamped and scanned for us."
Recording fees and payments can also be processed securely through Simplifile, eliminating check-writing expenses and reducing payment errors.
When it comes to rejected documents, the customer is notified immediately, according to Fox, and instead of returned the rejected document by mail, the submitter can correct and resubmit the document using Simplifile.
"We’re excited to be working with the clerk’s office in Phelps County, and to be providing this convenient, cost-effective recording technology for the county and its customers," said Paul Clifford, president of Simplifile. "The savings on paper, mailing expenses, envelopes, postage, and gas used when driving to the county to record documents are major benefits that come with e-recording no matter how big or small a county is."
High-speed Internet access, a PC, and a scanner are the minimum requirements for customers to begin e-recording with Simplifile.
Phelps County joins 66 other e-recording counties throughout Nebraska in addition to more than 1,195 recording jurisdictions that e-record with Simplifile nationwide.
