Je Suis Charlie
by William Pattison | 2015/01/12 |

The foundational liberties of Western Civilization were shaken by the recent murders of journalists in France.

The abstracting community shares the grief and heartache of the families, friends, colleagues and fellow nationals of the victims.

We rise in solidarity with those who bend but refuse to break.

We steel ourselves with the conviction that freedom is never free and earned through the blood of those bravest amongst us.

Now, we pick up the pieces and face a new dawn.

We resolve to be better; to live better and love better than ever before.

  Their legacy is our duty.

Their hope is the world we must build.

I'm Not Charlie...I am a Disciple of Jesus Christ

I refuse to be limited to the cultural choices of either Islamic extremism or the anything-goes nihilistic libertinism promoted by the likes of Charlie Hebdo.

Not Journalism, by any description

While I'll go along with the support for the survivors part, I have to question the rest of it.

The folks that were killed at Charlie Hebdo were not Journalists, they were/are literary satirists, their "job" as such being "holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn". (definition courtesy of Webster's Collegiate Dictionary).

Best description I've seen with respect to what happened, "They brought it upon themselves, but, they did not DESERVE it". (The tow "it's" involved representing two very different concepts).

Satirists by their nature poke at a Tiger in a cage with a stick. The only equalizer, in Reality, is the CAGE.
