Suggestion for handling new out of state clients: Intuit's accounting software, Quickbooks, has an option when creating an invoice to have the client pay it using direct deposit or credit card. I let the new client kindly know I'll be expecting payment up front before I send the finished report/docs to them. Some are ok with it, some are not, but I suspect the ones that are not were never going to pay me anyway.
