This is precisely why my father (a journeyman electrician in the IBEW) refused to grant a right-of-way to the power company when he built our family home.  They wanted to run an overhead line from the pole to the house, but Daddy insisted on running the line himself (underground) and only allowing the power company to tap in from the property line.
