Well, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, then. I do wish to clarify one prior statement with regard to fascism. What I am referring to is fascism as an economic system analagous to capitalism, not in a totalitarian sense. A government can exist as what you would call a "western-style democracy" and still be practicing fascism. Few people understand this.
I didn't say that for-profit insurers don't exist, just that most of them are run by non-profits. You referred to "subscribers", so you may be confusing health insurance with subscription-based health plans (like HMOs), which are not really insurance at all. There is a distinction between the two, as I'm sure you are aware.
Wasn't specifically referring to the UK or Canada, but since you keep citing them as examples, I've read numerous articles lamenting the unsustainablility of the current national health systems in those nations. Furthermore, I don't consider the anecdotal evidence persuasive. Our personal biases tend to taint the facts just a bit.
