I think things are going to continue to get worse into the middle of next year. I'm sure we will soon hear that the worsening economy is holding back the rebound of the housing market. Nobody is even speculating about what will spur our economy. In decades past, the events that have turned around our economy aren't likely to help this time around. War-time spending isn't helping - it's only causing our nation to go deeper into debt. A massive public-works program is unlikely because we can't afford it. Lowering interest rates is no longer an option, they have pretty much bottomed out. The housing boom really helped us out as many homeowners tapped their equity for consumer spending, but that is over. Credit card debt is even becoming a problem for people.
I'm not sure what it is going to take... but we need something on a grand scale to really help. I think we will be into 2010 before we see any meaningful improvement.
Best,
Robert A. Franco
