I'm not quite sure what kind of changes you are thinking of. The current review system on Source of Title allows for positive, neutral, or negative reviews. There is additional space for explanations, and the review-ee can post a reply. The ratings are accessibly from the directory by clicking on the rating number in parenthesis after the company name, (i.e. "(2)") Links to review a company can be found on the company review pages or from the "Directory" sidebar in the right hand column using the SOT ID number (see... "Leave feedback on a company").
It seems pretty simple to me - maybe we just need to find a way to let more people know how it works. There are well over 800 reviews, so people do use it. However, it seems that many people just prefer to post in the forums and solicit current comments from others. There is nothing wrong with that, but it seems to render a review system a little less desired. When the forums can searched by company name, and people can post a specific question and get a pretty quick reply, there just doesn't seem to be much demand for the reviews.
We have discussed alternatives. We would rather implement a more reliable system, modeled after the credit bureaus, with regular reporting whether things are going well, or not so well. Of course, that would require participation from a lot of abstractors on a regular basis. I don't think that can really be expected. We would have to hire additional staff to keep up with everything and make sure that the information is current. Unfortunately, things are pretty slow right now, for everyone, and we don't have the resources to devote to a major project like that.
Best,
Robert A. Franco
