I agree with Lynn. I think foreclosures will continue to plague us through 2008 and the effect that so many foreclosed homes will have on the communities will be a problem through 2009. As those start to become owner-occupied, I think we will see things improve. If they don't become owner-occupied, and they get snapped up by landlords as rental units, it could take longer to recover. I think we will see some normalcy in 2010, but still not what many might expect. I don't think we will see day's like we had during the refi-boom for many years to come.
It will be particularly difficult for abstractors and I don't think they will see the same improvement that the rest of the industry will experience. Too many "alternatives" to traditional abstractors: automated abstracting, searches imported from India, online searching, etc.
