I found this amusing, but not quite accurate. I forwarded it on to a select group of friends from law school, who also got a chuckle out of it. It spurred quite a discussion, as one might expect. I think we finally reached a consensus that the example the father used, although cute, was not a demonstration of liberalism, but socialism. Some may not think there is a difference, but there is. In my opinion socialism is all about the "fair and equitable" redistribution of wealth. Liberalism is more about helping those who need it. The lines become quite blurred if you define "those who need help" broadly.
Personally, I consider myself to be conservative. Unfortunately, my staunch Republican friends call me a liberal. My liberal friends think I am right-wing nut. I guess that means I have planted myself solidly on middle ground. Some people need help and some social programs are good for the country. Some go too far. Such is life.
Anyway, nice bit of humor. Just thought I would throw in my two cents.
