I disagree with your statement that liberalism and socialism are two different things. This country has experienced a gradual but noticeable shift to the left within the last 40-odd years. Since the 1960s, modern liberalism and socialism are almost indistinguishable from one another. John F. Kennedy, for example who was considered a liberal during his term as President was actually a fiscal conservative. If you were to read one of his speeches on reducing taxes to stimulate the economy, you'd swear it's one of Ronald Reagan's. Belief in God, limited government, rugged individualism and love of one's country used to be considered American values...these days, such things are scoffed at and ridiculed by those on the left.
Judging from your opening remarks here and from some of your posts in the Health Care thread above, I'd say you're a conservative...as were most of the Founding Fathers.
