I would do the current owner for my regular current owner fee. When they order the full search, they would have to pay my full search fee - I may offer a slight discount if they have been a good client, but it would certainly cost them more than the difference between the full search and the current owner. After all, you are making a second trip and it takes a little time to review your notes and re-familiarize yourself with the current owner you did a few weeks ago. But, if they were OK with that, I wouldn't have a problem with them taking this approach.
It might not be a bad idea if they are having a lot of problems with cancellations. If they have to pay their abstractors, regardless of whether the deal closes, it can be costly. This way, they may be able to get started and keep their clients happy, yet, keep the search costs down to current owner fees on the ones that cancel.
Of course, this all assumes they can do better than NET90! My invoices are all NET30 - I would not be doing anything for them if they had invoices 90 days late.
