Back to the question at hand....did the other abstractor call the company to confirm that it was for them and not David? So you would think that if it is the abstractor's responsibility then one of them should have called? Then the company should have let BOTH of the abstractors know that status and who gets the work by then. By that time, someone is usually working on the search and have spent time and money doing something on it. Who got the search back first to the vendor? Isn't that the main thing that want..asap? This has happened to me in receiving a few orders, but I am like David, I assume that another abstractor could not get to it and also one of my client's divide work between several of us in the area, so I don't call them to make sure it's for me.
Basically, if it's such a big deal to the vendor, I suggest that they split the fees between both abstractors in order to keep peace. You never know, they may need to the services of David, when the other abstractor is not available. It has happened.
