I'm just happy for your daughter that she had you to turn to in this situation. Too many consumers believe that the homebuilders, mortgage companies and lenders have their best interests at heart instead of truly being concerned only with their financial gain. It's sad to see.
I remember when I went for my first car loan, the loan officer at my local bank wanted me to be sure that this was a decision I wanted to make and clearly walked me through all the steps of securing the loan. I got the loan through a local lender and had known my loan officer through our church for years so I wasn't surprised at how he treated me. But, unfortunately, treatment such as that is no longer normal and may not have been even then.
It's just disturbing that the mortgage lenders, homebuilders and banks don't think big picture. They create many of the financial headaches that their employees have by forcing these products on borrowers to begin with. I'm happy that you found the article interesting.
