I expect much of the migration into Texas came from the Katrina refugees too. In particular the surge in Harris County (Houston). The folks down there aren't too happy with the people who stayed. The area crime rate has soared.
Unfortunately, much of the growth in both Texas and Arizona is likely to have come from illegal immigration. But take heart, I understand they will be coming to a county near you soon. :)
By the way, I'm working on a report on the ten least populated counties in America. I've already found some very interesting and even unbelievable facts like a county that fought off a takeover attempt by a radical faction of the Libertarians, a county with more horses than people, and even one county that bars anyone under the age of sixteen from entering the county.
