I got a good one, there was a truck driver from Arkansas that had been driving for over 30 years across country, they visited New Mexico and decided to move here. One day he went to work and his boss told him that his wife had just called in and quit his job for him, needless to say he was confused. He went home and inquired as to the call, his wife, an ex-county clerk employee in Arkansas told him " I quit your job for you and you are now an abstractor so go to the courthouse and start abstracting title", his response was something like "what is an abstractor"? Him and his wife opened and kept the company running for about 4-5 years, however when I saw him at the courthouse he was full of questions such as "what is a subordination agreement"? This is why NALTEA, it's goals, mission and dedication to edcuate abstractors is such importnance! Education and experience are the foundation of good abstracting and title examination, for a book can only make reference and not replace experience.
