Thank you for the citation.  I read it and was reminded of a recent offer I had to do one owner searches for $25 to $45.  I don't work for minimum wage.  Title searches require detailed knowledge and a work ethic that assumes quality of work comes first.  I've had local and long distance offers that are described as rush jobs only to realize that a few weeks have gone by before payment or other notification that they're just beginning to work on it.  I had a commercial search that had 3 pages of changed ownership names -,that I had to look up and detail in chronological order - and required a 70 year search and they offered $75 for the search. 

These are ugly days in which it appears that the zeitgeist requires excellent, quick work for burger flipper wages.  I can't help but wonder sometimes whether it would be possible to form a nation-wide union.  Contrary to one post above, setting forth quality control standards would be a good thing and would help weed out those whose work is careless, negligent or worse.

It's also worth noting that there are counties that have no online records and the distance travelled can consume the kind of wages you've cited.  Moreover, when I was trained 30 odd years ago a 60 year search was standard.  I quite often get requests for one owner searches these days.  We can thank the bubble from which we're recovering for that.
