In the counties I work in they charge one price if you get your own copies (self serve) and another if you request their services to retrieve the copies for you and either hand them to you or mail them to you if you are not local.

The usual fee for them to get copies is much more then what searches charge $2.00 1st page and $1.00 each page after per document and mailing cost and they only except checks or cash. So you have to mail in your request and payment and when it clears you get put in a pile of work to be done. Even if you opt to have them faxed back it is still at minimum of a week before you see those copies and with a searcher you get them back the same day, what service! You think they wouldn't mind paying for that convenience. Even the County offices won't retrieve their copies for the self serve price. I do not understand why people can not get this concept. And any vendor that tells you all their clients will only pay county fees for copies is lying unless they only have one client. How can any company be in business if they will not pay for a requested service. Who is giving in and working for free and giving them this power??? STOP!!! I am with you Scott I refuse not to be paid for services including copy retrieval. I compare it to them working nights and weekends at their companies do they do it for free? Absolutely not!
