San Mateo County, California:  last week a new official was hired to oversee the replacement of the current  online mapping program with a "Global GIS" system which will cover multiple counties. 

   I assume that this is part and parcel to the online records mandates that the Feds have put in place in order for counties to continue to receive Federal dollars.  Most if not all counties have complied and placed their Grantor-Grantee Indices online back by a few decades.  So, is this another step?

 I see the value in doing so, in that a county like San Francisco has three  distinct and competing GIS systems online because no department or level of government can cooperate with any other, so it's just easier to stick it to the tax payer.  At least it will simplify things there.
