I keep a Gruendig and Eloton shortwave unit handy in car and home

 New ones have Solar, Hand Crank Generator, and Rechargeable battery packs, PLUS USB ports to power up your devices.

 They have AM, FM, NOAA weather band and shortwave, plus outgoing Family Radio Service (FRS) which is a 2 mile range CB-like system.

Not many cyclones out here, but it never hurts to be ready.
