Source of Title Forums: Two Words: PUBLIC DOMAIN

I'm no lawyer and certainly some expert may contradict me on this, but the main difference between a picture of the Statue of Liberty and a picture of your family at the park, to my mind at least, is that you and your family are not public landmarks. I don't think you can copyright an image of a public landmark like a building or a statue. However, I seem to remember some recent court rulings that a person has the right to limit and control the use of their own unique image and likeness. Generally, that applies to commercial use, in other words, I can't take a picture of William Pattison doing courthouse research and use it on my website without his permission. A picture of the courthouse, however, would be fair game.

Interesting topic. Maybe an IP lawyer could weigh in on this.
