The programs got off to a slow start and the government made the initial mistake of overestimating the number of people who would be helped by HAMP.  But even though the programs have not helped nearly as many people as projected, the programs have helped a significant number of people, and have kept a significant number of homes from going into foreclosure.

According to ProPublica.org, 54.2% of the 1,493,107 modifications (figures current as of January 30, 2011) has failed. Not exactly what I'd call a smashing success.  Seems to me we ought to be getting a little more "bang for our buck".

But, that's just me.
