HUD is requesting comment on AfBAs for the purpose of possibly remaking RESPA rules in this area.  I have posted the formal announcement, which contains important information regarding how to comment, background information on the issue, and suggested points of discussion for your comments. 

AfBAs have directly affected many if not most of us, and I believe it is critically important that our government hears our voices on this issue.  It might be easy to assume that powerful interests will write the rules whether or not we offer our thoughtful and considered opinions, but we don't know that for a fact.

In general, I think that policy makers are finally starting to take notice that the deck is stacked against small independent businesses, especially since the small business job creation machine seems to not be working coming out of this recession.  The overall environment for RESPA reforms in favor of small independent title businesses is therefore perhaps more favorable than it has been in the past.
