We always get professional references.  However, they must provide the ownership of the company and we then verify it.  I want to know who to chase when it goes bad...no matter who it is... private, LLC, corporate or a law firm.   If they don't provide this information then its no deal.  Some do, some don't... if they don't then it smells like fish.
