Well... George, I could ask you the same thing: "How can you make a living nickel and diming your clients to death?"  If you charge your client for every little thing you do, wouldn't they get fed up and go elsewhere?

It might be a difficult concept, but I think of it as courtesy: favor, help, or generosity.  When I do work for my clients, I expect it to be mutually beneficial - they send me work and we both profit.  If they make a mistake, presumably because of faulty information they received, they aren't going to be able to bill extra, and I'm quite happy to share in the misfortune. Why?  Because my clients appreciate that and it builds loyalty.

To answer your question - "should you return a package without charge?"  YES!  When we have to return documents, I expect my client to provide their billing number so I don't incur shipping charges, but I don't charge them to put it in an envelope and address it back to them.  I wouldn't dream of it.  Again... it's a courtesy.

Maybe it's just a different philosophy... I don't know.  But, it works for me.
