Rob,
I'm not a member of the Guarantee program and I get plenty of work and it's not required to be a member to be an abstractor in this State. Being a member of the Program, you are required to have a Title Plant, which would cost Millions of dollars to do, so only the majority of the County Abstract Companies, some Lawyers, and the biggest Title Companies such as Iowa Title are members of this program and many that do belong were also Grandfathered in. It would be virtually impossible for me to ever be a member without having the capability to build a Title Plant which I don't have money wise, of course unless I won the Lottery, and I don't even play that...lol. I can't even join the Iowa Land Title Association without meeting these requirements...so yes, there are some restrictions...but none that keep me from doing my business.
