I think you will find the fees earned from acting as a signing agent are more rewarding than those of an abstractor. I doubt that your competitors are going to disclose their pricing to you. How you market yourself will depend upon the market. You will have to experiment with pricing until you find what works best for you.

One word of caution....DO NOT UNDER PRICE YOURSELF. If you do... you will put yourself out of business. Start at the higher end, and work down to what price is in demand. Another word of caution...the signing services and title companies are going to try to get you to work as cheaply as possible. They will quote a price to you if the do not like yours, and you can negotiate from there. When you agree to accept a signing...make certain that you keep your costs and expenses in mind...otherwise you will run yourself ragged for nothing.

Make certain that you advertise your services on the notary web sites....particularly Notary Rotary. You will get some idea of what prices are market value from the posts on the site. Sign up for the premier membership. It costs a few bucks extra , but it places you higher in the rankings of your competitors, and does produce more business than the standard membership. You will make the membership fee back with one closing if you price yourself properly.
