That doesn't make any sense, but I can't really say I'm surprised.  Somehow they can get a check out for recording fees right away, via overnight carrier, but they can't send the same check made payable to the abstractor to reimburse her for the same expense?  Come on...  Sounds to me like you made an exceptional offer - they were willing to overnight the funds anyway, your solution would have not cost them any more and they would have gotten their docs on record a day sooner.  Seems like a win/win to me.

It almost sounds to me like the company has a policy of not paying abstractors for 35-40 days and this employee extended that policy beyond the realm of common sense.  Suppose you had said, fine, overnight the check payable to the recorder, but I'm going to charge you a second filing fee for the second trip?  Or, fine... but you will have to wait until I come back to this county again to get this on record?  Do you think she would have seen how ridiculous she was being?  Probably not... she would have become irritated and started looking for a new abstractor.  That always seems to be the way.  Just like Rodney Dangerfield.... we "don't get no respect."
