[-] Nicknames, Aliases, mis-spellings - Larry Crooks/OH (15 replies)

I am curious to know what responsibility people think the examiner to has to think of and automatically run nicknames, alises, mis-spellings of names during the course of a title exam:

Example:

First Name: Elizabeth

Do you AUTOMATICALLY run Liz? Lizzy? Beth? Betty? Bette? Lizbeth? Liza? Elisabeth?

First Name: Robert

Do you AUTOMATICALLY run Rob? Robby? Roberto? Bob? Bobby?

First Name: Jacob

Do you AUTOMATICALLY run Jac? Jake? Jakey?

First Name: Kathleen

Do you AUTOMATICALLY run Kathleen? Kathy? Kathie? Katie? Kate? Cathy? Cathleen? Cathie?

It seems to me that there are no written standards (or unwritten) that are accepted industry wide for this type of thing.  What is the difference between thorough and exhaustive?  What is acceptable methodology towards acceptable risk reduction (which is what a title exam's purpose is)?  If you we open this can of worms, where do we draw rationale boundaries?  Who draws them?

Please keep in mind in all of the above examples, I am saying you (the searcher) did NOT come across any nicknames in the course of your search, so please base your answers on that assumption.

Curious to hear your thoughts!
