I do not think I have ever heard of Senator Obama saying anything about drug addiction, but feel free to correct me if I am wrong. There is a vast difference between experimentation and addiction. How many years have passed since the time to which reference was made? So, please do not overstate his comments.

With respect to Palin's administration as governor of Alaska and the proximity of the state to Russia, I really do not think that this has anything to do with her qualifications. The last I heard Alaska did not have its own foreign policy. You might want to review your high school civics notes...foreign policy is pre empted for federal regulation. In light of technology the distance between Alaska and Russia or Cuba and Florida is meaningless since we would all be incinerated within minutes. If you are old enough to remember the Cuban Missile Crisis... you may recall how most of the East Coast was a target within minutes between launch and detonation. Somehow, I do not recall the governor of Florida involved in resolution of the problem with the Soviet Union. Are you saying that Alaska is any different?

Although the Republican Party was quick to react to damage control and dispel rumors of her affiliation with the Alaskan Independence Party (Which advocates secession of Alaska from the Union), they were not fast enough to catch her welcoming address to the AIP in which she wishes them well. Yes. I read Scott's post and the source cited therein. Quite honestly if I had received something like that in the mail I would have relegated it to the out house with the rest of the right wing trash where it is best used for the same purpose as corn cobs and mail order catalogs.

You seem to have a rare gift for over simplification concerning  the 60's. However, since you and Scott are probably too young to have been involved in it, I really can't expect any more from you as outsiders looking in. It is true that there was a radical element  (The Weather Underground) that did advocate violence which culminated in the "Days of Rage". However, the majority of us just wanted to be left alone, and not become cannon fodder for Nixon's Vietnamization program. We opted for peaceful protest inspired by Gandhi and Martin Luther King. Please do not lecture me on the 60's...I lived through it, was part of "The Movement" (not to be confused with The Weather Underground), and I know whereof I speak. The majority of us did not advocate violent overthrow of the government....simply a change through peaceful means to a government that did not turn a deaf ear to the needs of the people who elected them.

It is very easy to point the finger at previous administrations for the failure to apprehend Bin Ladin and the sorry state of the economy. However, that does not change the fact that Bush has been in the White House for two terms, and the worst case scenario occurred on his watch. I have kind of had it with this failure, and do not want another four years of the same.
