In Southeastern Wisconsin I know a number of abstractors. One charges $30 PLUS copy costs, so his price varies. Another charges $50 a search plus copy costs. One charges $27.50. I think he is able to do this because he gets free copies for renting space within the courthouse and also has enough customers to stay buzy. The quality of searching varies as well. You can search by legal description, names & tax-key numbers. Some searches search only by legal description, when all searchers should be searching all three ways to double and triple check and be sure not to miss any postings that may have been misposted by county personel. Nothing should ever be missed. If it is, that usually means they didn't double or triple check things.
